Mijas Pueblo Festival

The Mijas Pueblo Festival is a flamboyant, multicultural extravaganza which takes place during the first two weeks of September in the charming ‘white town’ of Mijas Pueblo in Spain’s sunny Costa del Sol.  In honour of the town’s patron saint, the Virgin of the Peña, the festival presents a variety of cultural and musical activities with many countries represented.

Mijas Pueblo Festival

You might see the ‘Parade of Giants and Cabezudos’ (Bigheads) in the main streets of the town, you might see marching bands, even the queens of the fairs of Mijas, Las Lagunas and La Cala and their respective maids of honour.  Great for kids too, with plenty of foods and activities to keep them happy, plus the children’s party in the Municipal Tent.

On the 8th of September – the day of Mijas’ patron saint – and after the traditional floral offering to the Virgin, a Solemn Procession of the statue of the Virgin of the Peña takes place from the parish church to its sanctuary.

A broad range of activities take place during the fair, including music performances in the Municipal Tent and at Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña plus children’s parties. The fair normally closes with a fun fireworks display.

The Mijas International Festival is an event celebrating culture, folklore, and multi-ethnicity, a tribute to tolerance and the living together of people from different backgrounds. Held in Mijas Pueblo, it shows the best of the cultures of thirty different countries in the stands at Plaza Virgen de la Peña and the Wall Gardens. Costumes, arts & crafts, and food.

An Andalucian ‘White Town’

This charming white village is located in the hills between Fuengirola and Benalmádena with stunning views over the coast and on to the Mediterranean Sea.  It is a ‘typical’ Andalucian white washed village perched in the foothills of the Sierra e Mijas mountains, a few kilometres from the city of Málaga.
