If you’re coming here to the sunny Costa, arriving at Málaga (as the vast majority of you do), make sure you organise your airport transfers before you arrive. Those cabbies who wait outside will absolutely sting you. The last time I didn’t pre-arrange transfers, the bloke charged me €75 from the airport to Sitio de Calahonda. €75!! HE wouldn’t give me a quote, even an estimate, then wouldn’t look me in the eye when he asked for his filthy money. Mijas Taxis charge €45. I recommend Mijas Taxis, even though they’re a monopoly. They’re nice people on the whole.

Lots, lots, lots. I’m not a driver, but getting in and out is complicated. There are many offices next to the airport, including Hertz, Avis and Europcar, with many operators offering daily car hire rates from as little as €8.

Public Transport

If you’re up for a little mingling with the hoi polloi, the RENFE train runs from the airport west along the coast, stopping at Torremolinos and Benalmádena on its way to Fuengirola. Trains run every 20 minutes. They are clean and well maintained, but do get very busy.
