Málaga Airport

Málaga Airport, the gateway to the Costa del Sol!  Modern and sleek, Málaga Airport is easy to navigate and clearly signed in a number of European languages.  Expect it to be busy, especially in the summer months.  Really busy.  And, PRE-BOOK YOUR TAXI!!  The taxis at the airport will have your trousers down, metaphorically speaking.

Málaga Airport

Situated between Málaga City and Torrmolinos, Málaga Airport is a particularly busy airport with an astonishing eighteen and a half million passengers served in 2017!  The airport essentially operates from Terminal 3 which was opened in March 2010.  The second runway which is only used at peak times was opened in June 2012.  The airport offers full range of passenger services, loads of overpriced shops, cafes and that sort of thing.  All the usual rubbish you’d expect to find in any modern airport.

Málaga Airport Departures

And Arrivals

Airport Transfers

If you’re coming here to the sunny Costa, arriving at Málaga (as the vast majority of you do), make sure you organise your airport transfers before you arrive.  Those cabbies who wait outside will absolutely sting you.  The last time I didn’t pre-arrange transfers, the bloke charged me €75 from the airport to Sitio de Calahonda.  €75!!  HE wouldn’t give me a quote, even an estimate, then wouldn’t look me in the eye when he asked for his filthy money.  Mijas Taxis charge €45.  I recommend Mijas Taxis, even though they’re a monopoly.  They’re nice people on the whole.

Anyway, some airport transfer ideas…

Car Hire at the Airport

Lots, lots, lots.  I’m not a driver, but getting in and out is complicated.  There are many offices next to the airport, including Hertz, Avis and Europcar, with many operators offering daily car hire rates from as little as €8.

Public Transport

If you’re up for a little mingling with the hoi polloi, the RENFE train runs from the airport west along the coast, stopping at Torremolinos and Benalmádena on its way to Fuengirola. Trains run every 20 minutes.  They are clean and well maintained, but do get very busy.
